A Dog’s Life

This just in from the Great White North. Seems a former mall security guard cum “Animal Cruelty Investigator” (read dog catcher) upon discovering a dog locked in a car, rescued said canine. Good so far right?

He then proceeds to handcuff the dog owner to the car to await the arrival of police, leaving him stuck there while he rushed the dog to the vet for treatment. Wait, it gets better.

Whilst handcuffed to said car, and before said police could arrive, an angry mob gathers and beats the stones out of the dog owner. Police arrive some time later (I’m sure this call was a priority. “One Adam Twelve we have animal abuse in progress, please drop all murder, rape & robbery cases and proceed immediately”) to find the dog owner, still handcuffed, and bleeding. No mention in the article on whether he was afforded medical treatment. Also no word on any criminal charges in conjunction with the beating of a helpless handcuffed man by a group of vigilantes.

So the former rent-a-cop was suspended and an outside investigator brought in to look into the propriety of his actions. Which sounds fair to me, not so however to a growing throng of supporters who are demanding that the mall cop be reinstated. The Toronto Humane Society has been swamped with phone calls and letters asking for reinstatement and there are now at least 10 groups on Facebook supporting this guy’s actions.

You know, I think the guy is wrong for Michael Vicking his 50 kg Rottie (some of my Canadian friends will need to help me with how much that is American) but whether the abuse is human on canine or human on human, it’s still abuse. In Semitough’s world you charge the hell out of the guy for animal abuse, send the dogcop back to the mall, locate and arrest those involved in the beating. Put the Mounties on it. They always get their man, woman, horse, dog, whatever. I’m sure they don’t have anything else more important going on.

You sure this didn’t happen at the Stonebriar Mall…it sounds like something the Frisco crowd would do..

I checked with my Toronto sources. We came to the conclusion that it must have been Toronto rather than Texas because no shooting was involved and the rottweiler guy was not a pro football player or rapper.
