The Bryan-College Station Eagle is confirming what posters at Texags.com forums have been saying all morning, Wichita State coach Mark Turgeon is in College Station ostensibly to interview for the head men’s basketball coach position vacated last week by traiterous slut Billy Clyde
Tuggle Gilespy who left for a similar position with the Kentucky Baldknobbers Wildcats (but I’m not bitter):
Texas A&M athletics director Bill Byrne picked up Wichita State’s Mark Turgeon at Easterwood Airport on Monday morning then gave him a tour of the campus and Reed Arena, bolstering reports that he’s being considered to replace Billy Gillispie as the Aggie men’s basketball coach.
The ribbon board and the scoreboard at Reed, where the Aggies play basketball, says “Welcome to Aggieland Mark and Ann Turgeon.”
… According to a source close to the A&M athletic department, Turgeon, 42, has been offered the job.
However, a source close to Turgeon – who has been at Wichita State for seven seasons – told The Wichita Eagle on Sunday night, that reports of an offer was premature. The newspaper quoted players early Monday, saying that while nothing is official, it’s their understanding Turgeon is leaving to become A&M’s coach.
WSU athletics director Jim Schaus said Monday that he would not comment on the situation.
Some speculate that Turgeon, if hired, likely would return to Kansas to meet with his players before officially being introduced to the Aggies, which is not what Gillispie did Friday. Gillispie sent text messages to his players and staff, telling them he was in Kentucky talking and might take the job if the offer was right. Several hours later, he was introduced to students at a pep rally, followed by a nationally-televised press conference in which he was draped in his new school colors of blue and white.
But the B-CS Eagle isn’t bitter either.
Update: The Dallas Morning News reports that Coach Turgeon is flying back to Wichita tonight and will meet with his team at 10 pm, shortly after his plane touches down. Texags.com posters report that a leased private jet left Easterwood Airport bound for Wichita at 8:37 pm. The News report quotes two athletic department officials as stating that they see no hang-ups to the coach accepting the job.
